50/50 Friday (10): Favorite/Least Favorite Main Character

50/50 Friday is a meme hosted by Carrie @The Butterfly Reads and I and focuses on the opposite sides of books (best/worst, differing opinions, etc).  Every week will have a new topic and several advance topics will be listed in the tab labeled 50/50 Friday!

Today's Topic: Favorite/Least Favorite Main Character

Favorite

Adelina is definitely one of my favorite main characters!  One of the reasons I picked her over my other favorites is because she's just so different from the rest.  She has such a dark energy and mind and is one of the most well rounded characters I have ever read.  I've never read about such a dark main character who isn't immediately likable but the author does such a great job making her current thoughts consistent with her past and her abilities.

Least Favorite

I really just didn't like Eadlyn.  While I understand that she was raised a very sheltered life, America and Maxon did not instill any humility in her.  While I didn't really like her as a character, the book itself (the plot, the setting, and all the rest) was pretty good.  It was just so hard to push through because of Eadlyn's attitude.

What do you think of these characters?  Who are your favorite and least favorite main characters?  Make a post and link it below!

Next Week's Topic: Animal Sidekick as a Pet/Never as a Pet

  1. Yes, Adelina is one of my favorites too! :)

  2. I am more of a plot girl, or so I say but truthfully I'm obsessed with a good character. If there's none to be found I'll put the book down.

    1. Yeah, good characters can make or break a book! While plot matters, it's hard to keep reading if every time the characters open their mouths, you hate every word they say.

  3. I haven't read either book that was featured in this post, but I can say that I'm not fond of Kiera Cass's writing so I'd probably agree with your pick for least favorite. Honestly though, I'd rather read about a character with a bad attitude than a character that seems TOO nice!

    1. Haha 'yes' characters can be a bit annoying. It's so important for authors to keep their characters as realistic as possible although I suppose those people do exist in the world.

  4. I'm yet to read any book by Marie Lu, but so many people are all praise for her books that I fell like I'm missing out so much. Ugh, my tbr :(( I TOTALLY agree about Eadlyn though, what a pity for a story with such potential. The very attitude of Eadlyn made me wish the author had just stopped with book three. I do so love the first three books SO MUCH!

    1. Definitely pick one up when you have the chance! I love her writing! I pretty much loved the first three as well. It's cool to see Maxon and America after their wedding and all but I don't really like Eadlyn as a character and I don't get how they could have raised her to be like that!

  5. I didn't really enjoy The Young Elites (maybe it was because I listened to the audiobook compared to actually reading it because I really liked the second book...), but I have an extreme fondness for Adelina. I'm a villain book girl through and through and it's just a lot of fun. I haven't actually read The Selection series yet... despite the fact I do have the first book sitting somewhere on my shelf or Kindle app.

    1. Aw I'm sorry you didn't like the first book (although perhaps is was because of the narrator or something if you liked the second one). I really love good villains as well, especially when the author takes time to make them more complex. It just makes them that much more realistic! I'm not sure how much you'll like The Selection if you're a villain person but it's worth a shot! It's definitely pretty fluffy and romantic although there are some good villain moments in the third book. Thanks for stopping by, Sophia!
