50/50 Friday (60): Book That Left You Hungry for More/Satisfied

50/50 Friday is a meme hosted by Carrie @The Butterfly Reads and I and focuses on the opposite sides of books (best/worst, differing opinions, etc).  Every week will have a new topic and several advance topics will be listed in the tab labeled 50/50 Friday!

Today's Topic: Book That Left You Hungry for More/Satisfied

Satisfied:

Standalone to date

Blurb:
"A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from New York Times bestselling author, National Book Award finalist, and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.

Read it.

And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE."

I'm kind of a hard person to please and I always want more after a books ends, even if it's a standalone.  I just like knowing what happens to the characters throughout their lives and even how they'll die and such.  I don't know, I just like knowing!  This book though, I really didn't need to know more.  It was left in that perfect place (and if you've read it, you know that huge plot twist is the cherry on top) that perfectly completes the theme message and everything.

Hungry for More:

Caraval #1

Blurb:
"Remember, it’s only a game…

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away."

Maybe this is just a hazard of reading series books before the rest of the series has been released but after this book ended, I needed the sequel!  Unfortunately, that sequel won't be published until 2018 so there's a long wait ahead.  I just need to know more about the world and about Scarlett's sister, specifically.  She's such an instrumental part of the story and there's so much uncertainty of how big a role she played in the ending.  I need this sequel ASAP!

  2. Ooooh - I'm also so hard to please with endings!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually hate series enders!!!! They always scare me, especially if it's a series I've loved.

And... Yes - I also want the sequel to Caraval !!!!!!!!

    Great topic!

    1. Haha I am too! I always want more! Series enders scare me too! You've spent so much time with these characters and now you're not going to see them any more (ACOWAR was brutal; I'm so glad the novella, ACOFAS, is coming out soon). Thanks for stopping by, Di!
