Mini Review Sunday: Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins

The Sweet Series #4

Goodreads Blurb:
"Bad boy Kaidan Rowe has never wanted for anything—money, popularity, musical talent…hot girls—but seducing them is part of his duty as a Nephilim, slave to the demon Dukes. As the son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan has learned his father’s ways, becoming a master of passion, a manipulator of chemistry. Disobeying his father would mean certain death. Thankfully for Kaidan, he’s good at his job. And he enjoys it.

Until he meets Anna Whitt—sweet, smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she has a certain power over him, one that makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.

Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives as the influencers of sin, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the demons’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.

Sensual and swoon worthy, this companion volume to the acclaimed Sweet Evil series from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, told from the perspective of the irresistibly sexy and mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into his struggle, his intense connection to Anna, and most of all, the true emotions that drive him.

Author Note:
Sweet Temptation will encompass the entire trilogy in a condensed version, beginning with Kai's life before he met Anna, and taking readers through the epilogue of Sweet Reckoning. Sweet Temptation is a companion novel, not meant to be a stand alone story. It will definitely be a richer experience for those who have read the original trilogy."

Review:
So before I say anything, let me make it clear that this is a companion book to the original Sweet series and is, in no way, a replacement for those books.  It's in your best interest to read Sweet Evil, Sweet Peril, and Sweet Reckoning before reading this book. Also, this is going to be a mini review because I actually don't have all that much to say!

With that being said, this is an excellent companion novel!  I loved being able to see things from Kaiden's perspective and have a real glimpse into his life and not just see what Anna saw.  We get to see key scenes from the series in his perspective as well as a couple new scenes that Anna wasn't a part of in the original series.

The best part about this is the POV.  You can definitely tell the difference between Anna and Kaiden and it helps you delve into the story that much more.

There's one other thing I wanted to mention the one thing that I found disconcerting.  There were gigantic time jumps at certain points and I would have found it helpful if the book was divided by the original series (the names of the books divided the book into sections) and if each chapter was labeled with when it occurred.   Often times I found myself stopping for a minute and trying to locate in my head when this particular scene happened.

The Final Verdict:
This is a wonderful companion novel and if you loved The Sweet Series, I highly recommend you read this to get a deeper understanding of our male MC!

Quotes:
“I won't just be swallowing my pride; I'll be choking on it.”

“Anna finds remnants of cocaine on my coffee table and goes all daughter-of-Belial on me.”

“Brother Pharzuph," Astaroth begins. I know what he is going to say, and I steel myself. "I'm afraid this is more dire than we thought. Your son and the traitor's daughter are quite... in love.
Hm. I like the sound of that. It's the worst possible kick in the balls I can give Father, who looks as if he might vomit.”

“It would decidedly not be okay to touch the bum.”

“For the record,” I say, hardly able to speak through the lust that pumps through my veins, “I was more myself with you during those three days than I’ve ever been with anyone in my life. It’d be easier if I could be fake with you, but you bring out everything in me, little Ann. All of it.” The good and the bad. The hot and the cold. The lust and the love.”

“I think Anna Whitt is bad for my health.”

“And because I still feel like I haven't said enough - because I need to prove just how momentous this is for me, I bash down the barriers I've kept up for eight years, unleashing my aura for Anna to see. I shiver as I bare myself, and I feel Anna holding me tighter. I want her to see my love, like I saw hers once upon a time.
"Oh..." she whispers. "It's beautiful."
I shake my head. Only one thing deserves that word. "You're beautiful.”

  2. Ah this series is so great! I actually didn't like the first book but was in love by the end! I read this right after reading the first three, so I didn't have that many issues with the time jumps. Glad you liked it!
