30 Days of Books: Day 11 - A Book You Hated

Check out my first post (HERE) for a whole explanation on this!  Jenni is hosting this round and she has a linky set up if you'd like to join in!  Check out her blog HERE.

Today's topic is: a book you hated.

This is tough!  I honestly try to see the best in every book I read.  I feel like every book has something wonderful in it, even if you have to look really hard.  These two books are books that, while I did like one thing, were just really cringe-worthy and I was just infuriated with the characters.  They are:

The Healer Series #3

Blurb:
"The final installment of the Healer Series comes to a spell-binding close as Willow journeys to find the Gemstone Dagger and save her sisters. Battles have broken out everywhere and threats have been made to unleash the army of the Deadlands to conquer all magical races on Earth. It’s a race to the finish as Willow comes face to face with the evil that has threatened her happily ever after with Declan. Confronting a bitter enemy, a Vampire Lord, and winding up through a deadly labyrinth in a sky castle forces Willow to make a deadly choice. When it comes to choosing between the one she loves or saving her sisters, which will she choose? Can she truly save the world and bring balance back to nature? Sacrifices will be made, friends will be lost, and a mind-blowing secret will be revealed that changes Willow’s life forever."

This book was just all over the board.  The characters lost all sense of themselves and things weren't really age appropriate for the characters.  This series had such potential at the beginning but then, as it progressed to this final book in the trilogy, it all fell apart.  The ending also seemed like it was really thrown together and the author forgot about so many plot lines I just couldn't take it.

The Selection #2

Blurb:
"The Selection began with thirty-five girls.
Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?

America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away."

I really liked the first book of this series, I did.  But America just infuriated me in the sequel.  She had no sense of herself anymore and was just whining ALL.  THE.  TIME.  Quite honestly, I think the root of the problem for me is that I don't think this story should have been stretched out to three books.  Two would have been sufficient unless the author added more plot material.

What books do you hate?

  1. Oh yes, I think all of us, even those who stuck with the Selection series and enjoyed it, can attest to the Elite being the weakest link in the series. The angsty love triange was just too much!

    1. For sure! Perhaps if there was a bit more about the rebels or some other plot line that could have diluted the angst would have helped. Thanks for stopping by, Cristina!

  2. Aw, I enjoyed the Selection series, but I haven't been bothered to read the latest book yet. I agree - the Selection could have done without a cliche love triangle and developed America as a character even more.

    1. I hope you enjoy the rest of the books! For sure! Also, developing the world would have been so cool!

  3. I can't finish the Selection series. I've seen too many people say it just should have ended.

    1. Haha well I can't say you're missing much (except for a couple cutesy scenes here and there). I really wanted to read the rest because I wanted to know who America ended up with and how she got there. I'm one of those people who can't leave a plot line hanging.

  4. I haven't read either of these. I had The Selection series on my TBR, but then I heard how much people didn't like it. It's still there, but I'm not rushing to read it.

    1. It is a bit angsty and has quite the cliche love triangle but it does have pretty dresses and such! Really, it's a hit or miss - hopefully you'll be someone who likes it!
