R&R Review Sunday: Kill Devil Hills by Sarah Darlington

Goodreads Blurb:
"He’s twenty-four. She’s eighteen.

His life is exactly the way he’s always wanted it to be...stable.
She’s quite possibly the very definition of unstable.

Noah saved her.
Georgina never wanted to be saved.

Growing up, Noah Clark was passed from one relative to the next until he finally ended up living with his abusive, alcoholic uncle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Thanks in part to the unwavering love and support of his best friend, Ellie Turner, Noah survived those years, escaped his uncle, and grew into the man he is today. Now he runs his own business and lives a pretty normal, no-nonsense life—one where he maintains a high level of control.

Georgina is Ellie’s younger sister. Four months ago, Noah saved Georgie’s life, but he thought that was where his involvement with his friend’s sister would end. Now Georgie has returned home from the recovery facility her parents sent her away to and Noah, still haunted by the night that connects them, can’t stop himself from continuously trying to protect this girl he barely knows. But is he willing to give up all of the control he’s worked so hard to build in his life and risk everything for her? Even more importantly, would she do the same for him?"

Review:
Thank you to the author, Sarah Darlington, for gifting me with Kill Devil Hills in exchange for an honest review!

1.  The plot.  This book is essentially a love story.  However, there are two more personal journey's happening within it.  I love how these three plotline twine together to form one whole storyline.  It keeps the romance from being too overwhelming but it also builds character.  In terms of pace, this book is on the border of fast-paced.  It does keep you turning pages but there isn't an insane amount of tension build-up which I find to be an asset in romance centered books.  That way, you don't get so tired of reading about all of these insane problems that keep cropping up unrealistically and the book can unfold just how life does.

2.  The characters.  As I mentioned above, there is plenty of room for character development because of the trifecta of plot lines.  I really liked how the characters developed and how we slowly get to know each of them.  It isn't too overwhelming for the first book but there's enough so the characters feel human.

3.  The progression/romance.  Slightly drawing from the first two sections, the intertwining of the plot lines led to a wonderfully developed romance.  I loved how it unfolded.  The progression of the book was wonderfully paced.  The romance is cutesy but also pretty 16+ rated.

The Final Verdict:
An adorable romance that unfolds wonderfully.  The romance is balanced out perfectly with connected self-discovery plot lines.
4.5 stars

  1. Sounds like more of a character driven book which usually isn't my favorite but I'm intrigued.

    1. It definitely is very character driven (as many realistic romance books are) but it works out okay in the end. Perhaps you'd like it :)
